Help! My aids are squealing!

Squealing (or feedback), can be a major problem for some users. You will hear this as a constant ringing or short rings when eating or when you move your jaw or when you hold your hand close to your aid. Because the microphone in today’s hearing aids is so close to the loudspeaker, care must be taken to provide an adequate seal in the ear canal to isolate these components from each other. Some causes of feedback are:

    * Jaw movement can move the aid out-of-place causing sound leakage.

    * Losing weight can cause a loose fit.

    * Your ears and ear canal will get larger as you age resulting in a loose fit.

    * Sometimes a component in the aid might be at fault. Please bring your aids into us if you have these problems

My aids aren't from Wonderful Hearing Services, can you repair them?

No problem! We can do repairs on most models. However, if your aids are still under their original warranty, we advise that you do any repairs under this coverage.

What can I do to maintain my aids?

Maintaining your aids is simple. Keep the aids dry and remember to remove them when taking a shower or swimming or when using hair spray. Wipe them down at night with a soft cloth. It’s a good idea to open the battery door when you go to sleep to make sure the circuit is off and to promote drying. Remember to bring your aids in for a free clean and check every 3 to 4 months.

Help! My hearing aid got wet! What can I do?

It is important not to apply heat to the aid or place in any oven. Remove and discard the battery. Open the battery compartment door and place on a towel in a safe place until the aid is dry. If the aid is not working in 1 or 2 days, please bring the aid in to us.

My dog has chewed up my aids!

Dogs love to crunch on aids until they find it not to their taste. We like dogs but an aid makes a very expensive chew toy. Please keep your aids in a safe place if you have cats, dogs and/or toddlers. We have been able to repair aids that are “dog gone” if the damage is not too extensive. Patching shell with holes is a specialty of ours and we'll be happy to give you a free estimate.
